I went to Kew High with Steve Groves & Jihn Vallins as they were getting the group together. Steve later moved to the UK & stayed in music behind the scenes.John had a patchy career after the Kinetics but both he & Steve had a hit with "Toast and Marmalade For Tea" but not as The Kinetics. John later co-wrote a song that became rather big but all such detail escapes my fading memory. The royalties have kept John in reasonable comfort though. We were all in the first student intake when Kew High opened. I was the swimming team captain the same year. Happy days.

Johnny Chester is a Queenslander. The story is true & I can attest to it. It happened on Banks Street NewMarket in Brisbane. Number 43 or 45. I was on a Tram with other soldiers going to Enoggera when we saw the Cement Truck, the Police & cars pulled up everywhere. We all got out of the tram & ran down to see what had happened. There was the Car full of Concrete & this guy sitting in the gutter crying. The Police were interviewing the man & the woman was going right off. We all ran back to catch another tram but had to wait. This made us late for First Parade & we were charged with being Missing from place of Parade. However, after the explanation was given all charges were dropped. Then this song came out just after. We witnessed history being made.

Wish abc could show this series again…it must be in the archives, along with all the other quality shows from those days…

I dimly recall from my childhood a German insurance company used this in their TV-commercial.

And the publishes printed the music in the recorded Key of A minor, I thin k the tempo was 138 bpm.
